FREE! Visit with Author Rudy Martin: African-American scholar and long-time Evergreen professor S. R. "Rudy" Martin Jr. will read from his three most recent books and take questions and comments. Professor Martin will touch briefly on his family memoir On the Move: A Black Family's Western Saga (2009) and Natural-Born Proud: A Revery (2010), a novel comprised of nested stories bound between the times a man leaves for and arrives at his Reverend father's funeral in northern California. Then Martin will focus on one or two complete pieces from his latest book, Seaside Stories (2011), set in a small Black community in coastal California in the 1950s.

Dr. Martin is a founding faculty member of The Evergreen State College in Olympia. He taught American/African American Studies and was an administrator there until he retired in 1997. He lives in Olympia.
