Celebrate Earth Day by volunteering!
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites the public to attend a volunteer event on April 20 in honor of Earth Day.
Earth Day volunteer events on DNR-managed lands on April 20:
Mima Mounds NAP Event - Olympia
Where: Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve (NAP)
When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What: Aid in facilities maintenance, including repairs, sign and trail maintenance, and prairie restoration. An interpretive walk will be offered near the end of the day for interested volunteers.
Bring: Bring work gloves, sturdy shoes, water, and dress for the weather. DNR will provide tools.
Directions: From I-5, take exit 95. Go west on Highway 121 toward Littlerock. From Littlerock, continue west on 128th to "T" in the road. Turn right on Waddell Creek Road. Mima Mounds NAP entrance is about 1 mile on the left.
Capitol State Forest Event - Olympia
Where: Capitol State Forest
When: Volunteers will work on finishing the Porter Trail. In addition, volunteers put gravel on trails and install water bars. Many volunteers will stay for a mountain bike ride after the work party.
What: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Partners: Friends of Capitol Forest and REI
Bring: Bring water, work gloves, sturdy work shoes, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt. Lunch will be provided.
