Supplies Drive is Friday, August 15 6am-6pm.

Washington in downtown Olympia with school supplies (such
as lined paper, 3-ring binders, rulers, crayons, child-size
scissors, pencils, and backpacks), clean clothing, or cash
to buy new calculators, backpacks, and school supplies in

NORTHWEST SUMMER
FUN! Celebrate summer at the Southwest
Washington Fair in Chehalis (2555 National Ave.) August
12-17 (Tues.-Thurs. 10am-10pm, Fri.-Sat. 10am-11pm, Sun.
10am-7pm)! Mixx 96.1 invites you to enjoy the animals, exhibits,
rides, and fair food, as well as world-class performers like
Little Big Town August 14, Chicago August 15, and the Grass
Roots August 16. Special attractions include Demolition Derbies
7pm opening day and noon on Sunday. Ages 13-59 $8; 60+ $5;
kids 6-12 $5 (free for kids 5 & under). Tuesday, August
12 is Mixx 96.1 Kids Day, ½ price for kids.

FUN FOR KIDS (AND THE PETS WHO LOVE THEM): Saturday,
August 16, kids 16 and under will take to the streets of
downtown Olympia decked out in costumes, with animals in tow
and their hearts filled with excitement and joy. Pet
Parade is free and draws more than 1,000 kids and pets
- everything from dogs and cats to gerbils and llamas. Prizes
are awarded in numerous categories (click
here for categories) and every human marcher gets ice cream.
The Pet Parade starts at 10am (judging 8:45-9:30am) from Heritage
Park in downtown Olympia. Please bring pet food donations to

Catering, whose motto is "Delicious food graciously presented,"
sponsor this month's Thurston
County Chamber Business After Hours on Thursday,
August 21 at the Heritage Room, 604 Water Street in downtown
Olympia. It promises to be an evening filled with ideas for
easy summer living done the "green way." The networking

Get
your hands in the sand at Sand
in the City going on August 22-24 at Olympia's
waterfront by the Farmers Market. Watch the masters create
a mammoth work of art, get your face painted, play splashball,
climb a rock wall. There are 40 hands-on activities as well
as live entertainers - it's a free family beach party! All
donations benefit the Hands On Children's Museum. Friday is
the day for sand sculpture creation and the evening gala (call
to reserve tickets). Saturday & Sunday feature free family

The Hub
City Motorsports Weekend includes a car show in Downtown
Centralia and the Grand Prix around the Centralia College campus.
The Hub City Car Show, featuring 200+ antique automobiles, will
take place on Tower Avenue in Downtown Centralia Saturday, August
23 10am-4pm with lots of activities, games and prizes. The Grand
Prix will feature go karts and motards racing around the
Centralia College campus Saturday & Sunday, August 23-24

artists and the arts. During August, eight public art
projects will come and go in downtown Olympia. All the exhibition
dates vary, and some of the projects involve components that
